A Love Story

Since Valentine's Day is just around the corner, I thought maybe you'd like to hear a little love story to help get you in the spirit.

This is a story about my dearest friend.  We'll call her Dawn.

A little background on Dawn: She has been a dear friend for nearly 15 years.  She is the kind of friend everyone wants to have.  Loyal, understanding, caring, and generous, but not afraid to tell you the truth if you ask for it.  She is a Godly woman - Bible college educated, even.  She is a second grade teacher, and she really enjoys her job.

For as long as I've known her, Dawn has not had a serious boyfriend.  She has seriously liked some guys, and she's been seriously liked by some, but I've never known her to be in a steady dating relationship.  She is picky, sure.  She has the right to be.  She's a catch.  She also spent a lot of her post-college life not putting herself in situations where it was easy to meet other single people.  She tried to date some - don't get me wrong.  It's just that nothing seemed to pan out.

Then, she started going to large church in our area where there are plenty of single men.  PLENTY.  Praise God for that decision.  =)

Low and behold, she met a man.  We'll call him Adam.

I just have to tell you details, because it's such a sweet story.

To begin with, Adam pursued Dawn.  They met at a singles gathering at their church.  Talked some, but nothing too much.  You know the drill.  Well, within a week or two, Dawn received a phone call from Adam.  (She had not given him her number.)  Adam had taken it upon himself to send her a FB friend request, find her phone number (which she realized should probably not be on FB and has since removed), and call her.

Now tell me.  What girl doesn't like to be pursued?

Adam asked her on a date on that first phone call, and he's been asking her ever since.  As with most relationships, it's been a gradual process, as they have gotten to know each other and have started spending more time together.

I haven't had the pleasure of meeting Adam yet, but these are some of the things Dawn has told me about him that make him special, in my opinion:
  • He has paid for everything since their first date
  • On each date, he tells her when he will call her next, and he always follows through
  • He doesn't call her all the time has a life of his own
  • He is a Godly man
  • He is not rushing the physical stuff, which we all know is what the Lord would intend for us
  • And my personal favorite: He officially asked her to be his girlfriend.  I doubt he used those exact words, as they would likely be cheesy, and he doesn't sound like a cheesy guy, but he was respectful and considerate enough to ask her how she felt about dating exclusively.

She met his family this weekend, and she loved them!

I'm so excited for her.  I have prayed for years for the Lord to send her a Godly man.  I had a feeling He was preparing someone for her.  Whether Adam is that man or not - only time will tell.  In the meantime, I'm thrilled for the both of them.

I'm loving the fact that Dawn will have a boyfriend, and hopefully some flowers and a fun date, this Valentine's Day!

Now, is that a sweet story, or what?
