And now...I'd like to introduce...the newest, wildest, rascaliest member of our family.
After much debate, I think we've settled on the name Charlie. If the dog has come out of the last few days without an identity disorder, he's doing very well. He was Jack, Buddy, Beaux, Marley, Cotton, and probably others I can't remember. I mostly called him Dog or Puppy. Finally today we thought of Charlie, and I think it just might stick.
Let's see, we've had him for 3 nights, and so far, we've had only one major casualty. My brand new living room rug. It's a good thing I didn't pay an arm and a leg for it. He peed on it so many times, and there's a lovely spot to remind us of each accident. He also loves to chew on the rug. We may take it up, but honestly, at this point, it's shot, so we may as well just leave it down until the potty-training / chewing stages are over. When is that, by the way??
He's really a sweet boy. He whined the first couple of nights in his crate, but last night, he went to bed at 10:30ish and didn't whine to get up until 7am this morning. I even offered to let him out at 3am, and he didn't want to go. I'm hopeful that the night time training won't be too hard. It's the day time potty training that will take some work.
One thought that keeps occurring to me is that maybe winter time wasn't the best time to get a puppy, because we actually have to go out in the yard with him in order to get him to use the bathroom. If we try to put him out by himself, he just stands at the door and looks at us. Needless to say, we've had a lot of COLD trips outside. Brrr.
Overall, though, I'm happy with our decision to bring a puppy into the family. And I'm certain I picked a good one. He's 100% puppy, but he's going to be a great dog. I can already tell.
Just for kicks, here's a holiday wish from Charlie (rudolph nose and all).
Oh he is so sweet! And I love that he's the '' rascaliest" member of the Lewis family. Also, I send my condolences for your rug. ;)
