Resolutions

I'm really not a New Year's resolution kind of girl.

I don't know why. I've made them in the past. I've even stuck to some. But at this point in my life, I find myself not really wanting anything to do with resolutions. I haven't given the first thought to what a possible resolution would be this year.

I can think of several things as I type this that would make good resolutions.
  • floss my teeth every day

  • read my Bible every day

  • read through the Bible in a year

  • devote time to prayer every day

  • don't yell at my kids

  • get more organized

  • develop a structured daily plan for the days I'm home with the girls

The list goes on and on. There are so many things I need to improve upon. I think it's just overwhelming. Maybe that's why I don't want to make a resolution. I don't even know where to start.

I think the real root of it all is that I don't like to fail. I tend to not set goals for this very same reason. I don't like to not reach my goals, so in my mind, it's better to not have them. That way, I'm less likely to be disappointed in myself. If I achieve something I'm proud of, then I can be proud of myself without having to worry if I did enough to reach a goal.

Funny how we're all programmed differently, isn't it?

What about you? Do you like to set goals? Did you make a New Year's resolution?

  1. I can totally relate to the never-ending "I need to be better at this" type of lists. I wrote down some goals this year that are less intimidating for me, because they are not "every day" things that will make me feel like I failed if I miss a day or slip up one time, but rather "do it and be done" type of goals. For example, rather than say "get more organized," maybe you could pick one or two things that would really help you get organized and make that your goal. For me, it would be to organize my cut-out recipes into a binder. Once you experience the success of achieving those types of goals, it will probably make you feel better overall, and you may actually exceed your expectations! Best wishes to you :)
